The tech tear-down process of your LO206 engine can be a frustrating part of go-kart racing.

After most inspections, you’re left with a winning engine in disarray.

Although some go-kart racers attempt to DIY their engine reassembly, most racers rely on their engine builder to reassemble and retune to guarantee the engine is ready for the next race.

A smooth post-tech inspection inventory prep will alleviate the stress of being torn down.

We recommend these action steps:

1. Get small plastic sandwich ziplock bags - make sure the sandwich bags have some sort of a sealed enclosure if you cannot find specifically a ziplock seal.

2. Create a list to catalog all the parts taken off the LO206 engine.

3. Write on the bags in black Sharpie where these parts came from on the engine and seal each item in their respective bag.

4. Wrap up valves, rocker arms, and push rods separately with paper towels.

5. Tape off the deck surface of the short block with masking tape. This will prevent debris from dropping inside the short block and ruining the engine.

6. Reinstall the bare cylinder head back onto the taped short block and install the rocker cover.

These last two steps will prevent the head and short block from knocking into each other during transit, causing damage while on their way to your builder.
